Komodo cruise on a small boat: Bombana 1 and Bombana 2
Updated 23 October 2026
A Komodo cruise on Bombana 1 or Bombana 2 puts you on a phinisi with 5 cabins and no more than 15 or 13 guests. Open-trip fares start at IDR 2,950,000 (≈ USD 181) per person for 3 days and 2 nights, and the park ticket is paid separately.
Why a boat this small suits the park
Bombana 1 has 5 cabins and takes up to 15 guests. Bombana 2 has 5 cabins and takes up to 13. Small is a plain description here, not a sales word.
At the rail it means you can find a gap at sunrise on day 2. At the dining table it means you know everyone's name by the second lunch. At the ladder it means the queue into the water at Pink Beach is short.
Small also costs something. A boat this size moves more in a swell than a large vessel, and the common spaces belong to everyone on board. We can't change either. If that worries you, read the guide on seasickness on a sailing trip before you pay a deposit.
Open trips run 3 days and 2 nights, every Monday & Friday, from Labuan Bajo into the park and back.
Same jetty, different rooms
Two sisters, then. They tie up at the same jetty, sail the same printed route and keep the same Monday and Friday dates. What changes is the room you wake up in and the size of the party around you.
Bombana 2 has the master cabin, a second cabin with its own balcony, a water heater in every cabin and a round tub (jacuzzi) at the bow. Bombana 1 has the lower fare and room for 15. The cards below give the cabin count, the guest limit and the lowest fare for each boat.
Neither boat is the better one in general. Each is better for a different party, and the next lines say which.
Which sister?
- Bombana 1 if the group is large or the budget is tight.
- Bombana 2 if you want the bathtub cabin, or a canoe and paddle board.

Both boats in a single grid
The grid puts the numbers you decide on in one place. Read the cabin and guest rows first, then the whole-boat from-price, then the open-trip from-price per person, and last the next sailing.
Two rows differ most: guests, up to 15 against 13, and fare. Bombana 1 starts at IDR 2,950,000 (≈ USD 181) per person on the open trip. Bombana 2 starts at IDR 4,250,000 (≈ USD 261).
Whole-boat prices depend on group size and on 2, 3 or 4 days, so the grid shows only the lowest. The charter page lists every band.

Decks and shared spaces
Bombana 2 has four shared spaces. A round tub (jacuzzi) sits in the teak foredeck at the bow. Behind it, a bow lounge has a long teak table under a canopy, with cushioned benches along the sides.
Inside, a saloon has a wooden table and windows on both sides. The foredeck itself is white, with railings, and the bowsprit points out over the water.
Short list. All of it is on the bow side of the boat.
From the rail
On Bombana 2 the tub sits right at the front of the boat, in the open, with nothing built over it. Anyone walking to the bow passes it. It is not hidden away.
Bombana 1 has a sun deck with bean bags, semi-outdoor dining, a karaoke set and towels. The bow tub belongs to Bombana 2.
Spec and comfort, boat by boat
Bombana 2's page has a spec block with engine, speed, fresh water and safety kit, and its length is 22.6 m.
Every Bombana 2 cabin is ensuite, with air conditioning and a water heater. Every Bombana 1 cabin has a private bathroom. The two boats are sisters and not twins.
Read the Bombana 1 and Bombana 2 pages for the detail, and the cabins page for the rooms.
FAQ
How many guests fit on Bombana 1 and on Bombana 2?
Bombana 1 takes up to 15 guests and Bombana 2 up to 13, with 5 cabins on each boat. On the open trip the boat is shared, so a full sailing means 13 or 15 people at the table. On a private charter the same limits apply to your group alone.
Do the two boats follow different routes?
No. Both run the same printed 3-day, 2-night route: Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong on day 1, then Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo, Taka Makassar and Manta Point on day 2, then Siaba or Sebayur on day 3. They leave on the same Mondays and Fridays. The difference is the cabin, the fare and the number of guests.
How much luggage fits on a small phinisi?
Pack in one soft bag, because cabin space on a boat with 5 cabins is tight and hard cases are awkward on the ladder and the jetty. Tell us your plan on WhatsApp and we'll say what we know.
Is a Bombana trip sailing, or a motor boat?
Both boats are phinisi, the traditional Indonesian wooden sailing hull. Bombana 2 has two masts and a main engine. Plan on moving between islands by engine.
Do all ten cabins have a private bathroom?
Yes. Every cabin on both boats has a private bathroom: 5 on Bombana 1 and 5 ensuite on Bombana 2. Bombana 2 also has air conditioning and a water heater in all 5 cabins.
