The stops: island hopping on a small sailing boat

Updated 23 October 2026

Island hopping on Bombana 1 or Bombana 2 means nine stops in 3 days: Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong on day 1, Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo, Taka Makassar and Manta Point on day 2, then Siaba or Sebayur on day 3. A 4-day charter adds Gili Lawa, Kanawa and Rangko Cave.

The route as nine stops

Day 1 starts gently, with lunch on board. Kelor is a short, steep hill with a view of the bay. Manjarite is the first snorkel. Kalong ends the day at sunset, with flying foxes leaving the mangroves.

Day 2 holds five stops. Padar opens it before sunrise, then Pink Beach for a swim, Komodo Island for the ranger-led dragon walk, Taka Makassar for the sandbar and reef, and Manta Point for the drift.

Day 3 is one line in print: Siaba or Sebayur, then back to Labuan Bajo around midday. That makes nine, on both boats, on every Monday & Friday sailing. The only fixed time is the 10:00 meeting point on day 1. The 3-day route has the order and the meals.

Where each stop sits

The grid below shows every stop with a page here, one card per stop. Each card tells you the day, the main activity and how hard it is. Open a card for climb times, tide and kit.

Day 2 is the busiest card row, and it should be, because the Padar climb, the dragon walk and two snorkels fill a single day from before sunrise until dinner. That's why it's the day people remember. Day 1 and day 3 are lighter.

The 4-day charter adds Kanawa and Sebayur in its own order, plus Gili Lawa and Rangko Cave. Those two have no page of their own, and the last section here covers them in a line each.

Shoes for the hills, masks for the reefs

Three stops are about your feet. Kelor, Padar and Komodo all need closed shoes with grip. The Kelor path is steep and dry, the Padar path is loose and steep in places, and Komodo has little shade on its trails.

Five stops are about the mask. Manjarite, Pink Beach, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Siaba or Sebayur are the water stops. Masks are provided on both Bombana 1 and Bombana 2. Fins are not promised, so bring your own if you want them.

Padar also needs a head torch, because you climb before sunrise. Kalong needs a charged camera and patience. A hat and reef-safe sunscreen belong in every bag. The packing list goes through the rest.

Four stops without a page of their own

Four stops on the route have no page of their own.

  • Manjarite: the snorkelling stop after Kelor on day 1.
  • Siaba: part of "Siaba or Sebayur" on day 3 of the 3-day route, and its own stop on day 3 of the 4-day charter.
  • Gili Lawa: day 3 of the 4-day charter only.
  • Rangko Cave: day 4 of the 4-day charter only, after Kanawa.

Rinca is not on the route. If you want to compare it with Komodo Island, the hiking guide does that.

FAQ

Which stops need no climbing and no strong swimming?

Pink Beach, Taka Makassar and Sebayur are easy water stops, and Kalong is watched from the boat. Kelor, Padar and Komodo involve walking, and Manta Point asks for a confident swimmer. That makes 4 easy stops out of 9 on the 3-day route.

How many stops are there on day 2 of the sailing trip?

Five: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. They fall between a pre-dawn start and dinner, with breakfast and lunch in between, so day 2 has 3 meals. Tide and current can swap Taka Makassar and Manta Point, and weather decides the rest.

If Rinca isn't on the route, where do the dragons come in?

Rinca is not on the 2-day, 3-day or 4-day route. The dragon stop is Komodo Island on day 2, with a ranger, on every length of trip. The 4-day charter adds Gili Lawa, Kanawa and Rangko Cave, which are other islands, not dragon stops.

Can I sit out a stop if I'm worn out?

Yes, within reason. Tell your guide at breakfast, before the climbs at Kelor and Padar or the ranger walk on Komodo, and plan the day together. The route order itself is the captain's call, and we can't promise to reshuffle it for one guest.
